Frances Evelyn Cowles, was born Frances Evelyn Mason on May 7, 1945, to the late Annie E. and David I. Mason Sr. On Thursday, March 18, 2021, the Lord brought her unto him for eternal rest.
At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Personal Savior and joined St. John Baptist Church. She worked several jobs during her career and retired from Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.
On June 16, 1962, the late Rev. J. H. Moody joined Frances and Albert Lee Cowles in holy matrimony. They enjoyed 58 years of marital bliss.
Frances without a doubt loved Christ, she would share her love and thoughts about HIS awesome grace in her life. Her joy was cooking and seeing people eat her food; no matter what she fixed, she would say " Ready ain't it! then laugh. She loved singing, banana-flavored candies, and a cold Pepsi Cola. Her heartbeat was her family; she always asked God to direct their path. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Corina Glasco, Jeanette Mason, Maratha Mason, Mary Jones, Dorothy Travers, and David Mason Jr. Left to forever cherish her memories are her husband, Albert L. Cowles Sr.; children, Brenda L. Smith (Randy), Albert L. Cowles Jr., Tony Mason (Tina), and Clovis Mason (Tonya); two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lenora Jones and Annie Shackleford; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A service will be held to celebrate her life at 12:00 noon Friday, March 26, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements. Facebook Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Cowles may be viewed on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
