Frances Wilson Obituary

On August 17, 2020, God in his almighty powers sent his angels on a spiritual mission to bring home for “eternal rest” our beloved Frances Lorraine Carter Wilson, fondly known as “Sis.” She answered The Master’s Call.  She was born the second of five children to the late Lottie M. Sedgwick and Floyd A. Carter, on March 19, 1932, in Tabb, Virginia.

Lorraine was educated at York County Training School. She confessed Christ as her personal savior and joined Grafton Baptist Church, Harris Grove. As a young woman, she met and married the late Otis Wilson. Lorraine had one daughter Barbara Carter Walker, who preceded her in death.

Lorraine moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a young woman and made her home there. She loved Philadelphia but would visit her home in Virginia often until she was no longer able to travel.  She had a strong sense of community and established lasting friendships that resulted in her having a host of people to love and support her during her health challenges towards the end of her life. She worked for Hygrade – Sara Lee Food Products Corporation for 28 years. She joined First Corinthian Baptist Church in 1968 and loved Sunday and Tuesday prayer meetings and attended faithfully. A woman of strong faith, Lorraine also attended New Hope Baptist Church after Sunday School at her home church and considered them her extended family. She took great pride in her appearance and you would not catch her in service without a proper and stylish hat. She served on the Early Hospitality Club and Sunday School Sick Committee. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross and enjoyed the opportunity to help others in such an important way. Lorraine was an avid traveler and absolutely loved cruising. She could always be counted on to provide words of wisdom and she kept her quick wit to the end.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother, John Carter, and sister, Evelyn Dillard. She leaves to forever cherish her memory, two sisters, Bernice Fields (Matthew) and Deloris Dammons; five nieces and four nephews; special friends, J.C. Wise, Linda Jarmon, Katie Brookes, and Deborah Huggins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association via www.heart.org and the American Lung Association via www.lung.com in Lorraine’s memory.
