Fred “Shorty” Kelly Jones was born on August 16, 1930, to the late Tom Phillip and Temante Watkins Jefferies, in Charlotte, NC. On Tuesday, September 29, 2020, God’s angels ushered him into his eternal rest. We tried to call him back but God our Father knows what’s BEST!
Fred spent his early years in Charlotte, NC before migrating to Roosevelt Long Island, New York, where he worked for an industry that made bomb casings. Later, he became a business owner of the neighborhood grocery store. After retirement, he moved back to Charlotte.
In 2012, Fred faced a few health challenges and relocated to Newport News, VA with his beloved daughter and son-in-love, Jacqueline, and Paul Johnson who became his caregivers.
He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend that truly loved his family, fishing, and his westerns on TV. He will be greatly missed by all and as he would so often say “You got that Right!”
He leaves to cherish his many fond memories, four daughters, Jacqueline Johnson (Paul) of Newport News, Virginia, Gloria Strong of Charlotte, NC, Linda Clark of Charlotte, NC, and Tammy Jones of AL; son, Freddrick Jones of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; brother, Junior Jefferies (Minnie) of Shelby, NC; sister, Minnie Lattimore of Charlotte, NC; a special friend, Limy Lattimore, who was like a brother; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, in A. E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home, 2310 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206, with a viewing beginning at 2:30 p.m. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance.
