August 9, 1960 ~ January 26, 2024 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Frederick Hill Sr. Obituary

On Friday, January 26, 2024, Frederick Hill, affectionately known as “Fred,” ”Ricky,” or “Brown,” transitioned home to be with the Lord, at the age of 63. He was born to Louise LaVerne Hill and the late Reuben S. Hill, Sr., in Williamsburg, Virginia.

At an early age, he joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  As he got older, his love for God never diminished and he continued to worship God at various churches.

He was educated in the Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools, graduating from Lafayette High School, in 1979. He worked at local hotels, in the Building and Grounds Department at Busch Corporation at Kingsmill, and worked in various construction and concrete jobs. He became interested in the concrete and construction work and started his own business in 1987 where he remained until 2009 when the market crashed. He also worked for two government contracting agencies before starting with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Engineering Technician, where he worked until his demise.

Fred was a well-rounded individual. He loved his sons and was a good father. He adored his mother and helped her in any manner he could. He also loved and enjoyed his siblings. He was a horseman and would work on the farm in Hampton to assist in boarding and feeding his horses and other animals. He was a dedicated and hard worker, whom all of his coworkers loved and thought the world of him. His coworkers came from distances to visit him during his illness. If you needed a good conversation, Fred was the man to visit. He spoke with Abram “Bum” and Sherwood “Hook” for long periods daily. He could talk about the goodness of the Lord and how he was blessed. He was grateful to be home where he received the best of care from his family. Ricky's faith was the rock and foundation upon which he built his life. He was a very good person and would do whatever he could to help others.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Avis Lee and Hazel Wimbish. He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Frederick Hill, Jr. of Williamsburg and Sherrick Hill of Richmond by his former wife, Sonja Hill; two grandchildren that he wished to have spent more time with, Amaya Howard of Williamsburg, and Isaiah Hill of GA: his mother, Louise LaVerne Hill of Williamsburg; his sisters Amanda Dandridge of Richmond, Sherron Hill, and his twin sister Frederica Hill, both of Williamsburg; brothers, Reuben Hill, Jr. of GA and Deacon Wilbert Hill (Rev. Doretta), both of Williamsburg, and Sherwood Hill of Newport News; his nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Fred, Cynthia Terry, Patricia McCargo, Monica Davis, Natoya Haskins (Douglas), LaTonya Roberson (Vince), Ashla Roseboro (Ashley), Aisha Scott, Sherell Hill, and Ayoka Dandridge, Philip McCargo (Natalie), Wilbert Hill, Jr. (Casonya), and William Hill (Jazzirelle); special friends, Yvonne Stevens, Harvey Highsmith, Abram Frink, and Ronald Chapman; his posse of friends, James “Skeeter” Palmer, Marvin “Rudy” Randall, and D'Artagnan Cotton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
