Gary Anthony Cowles

Gary Anthony Cowles was born on December 1, 1960, son of Cora A. and the late Jearl L. Cowles.  On Sunday July 25, 2021, the Lord sent his angels down from heaven to bring his son home to eternal rest.

He was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.  At an early age, he confessed Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church.

He worked as an operator for Hampton Roads Sanitation for many years.  Lastly, he was employed with and retired from Bluegreen Vacations as a Supervisor of Housekeeping.

Gary loved to play football and baseball.  He really enjoyed watching the Oakland Raiders.  He also loved to make people happy and laugh.  He had a big heart and would give you the shirt off his back.  Gary will truly be missed by his family and friends.

His memories will forever be cherished by his son, Jamar Cowles; mother, Cora Cowles; siblings, Marlon Cowles (LeAnn) and Aundria Cowles; nephews, Jearl Cowles, Bryan Cowles, and Marlon Brown; great-niece, Oaklan Cowles; aunts, Lena Harrod, Francis Roberts, and Lois Harris; special friend, Rose Speller; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Facial coverings and social distancing are recommended.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment to follow in Zion Baptist Church.  Mr. Cowles may be viewed in the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the hour of his service on Saturday.
