On Monday afternoon, August 14, 2023, our beloved George Henry Brown slipped away into eternal bliss from the comfort of his home. Although George was born in New York City on July 5, 1943, he was a resident of the city of Williamsburg, Virginia for much of his life.
George was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System, and graduated from Bruton Heights School and continued his education at Virginia Union University. George was employed at Eastern State Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 40 years before his retirement.
At an early age, George accepted Christ and served several ministries. He joined Bethel Bibleway Church (now Bethel Restoration Center) in 1984. George loved to sing and dance and if you saw him at church, you knew it. There was no shame for him when it came to praising and serving the Lord! George was a faithful member of the Adult, Mass and Senior Choirs. He also served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Men’s Ministry Secretary/Treasurer and devoted adjutant to the pastor. His love for the entire Bethel Restoration Center Family was evident and he was proud to call himself the son of his pastor and 1st Lady. Not only did he serve locally, George also served International Bible Way Church of Jesus Christ as Senior Adjutant; as well as Registrar for the Virginia Diocese.
George Henry Brown was preceded in death by his loving mother Bettie F. Wilson Brown, his father Horace Brown; brother James H. Brown Sr., loving and devoted Aunt Matilda Wilson, "Sister-In-Love" Irene P. Brown and his niece Mary Jane Conner.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his nephews James H. Brown, Jr. (Brenda) of Newport News, VA., and Wendell L. Brown (Melinda) of Wakefield, VA.; nieces, Marie Wallace-Jefferson (Hubert) of Williamsburg, VA., Bettie Scarborough-Burton (Haywood) of Manteo, NC, Reedia C. Doyal (Bobby) of Williamsburg, VA., and Charlette M. Brown of Williamsburg, VA; nephew-in-law, Randolph Conner; god-daughter, ShaGloria Washington; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
Never will he be forgotten, memories of him will always be cherished by his family, his many spiritual daughters, sons, brothers and sisters; his life-long friend, Donald “Butch” Moore, devoted friend, Natasha McFarland and his caretakers, Phyllis and James Vauters, who took such good care of him during his time of need.
Much said and much done….George was unique, loving and kind as well as one of the best dressed men around! Take the runway….See you on the other side.
