George Dwight Cameron, Jr. received his wings on Monday, May 27, 2019. He was born on December 18, 1951 in Newport News, Virginia, to George M. Cameron and the late Mildred E. Cameron.
George graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1969. Following graduation, he attended Thomas Nelson Community College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Physical Education. He later went on to attend Norfolk State University. He served over 25 years as an employee at Ball Metal Beverage Packaging. His passion for watching and participating in sports led to his playing baseball, softball, and golf. He definitely enjoyed being a member of the Invaders softball team. In 2017, he recommitted his life to the Lord and became a member of Colossian Baptist Church.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 46 years, Hattie Cumber Cameron; four children, Carleen Yvette Cameron, George Dwight Cameron, III (Karen Rottkamp, a special friend), Shavonne Renee Cameron, and Damien Lamont Cameron (Courtney); his father, George M. Cameron, Sr; two sisters, Andrea Turner (DeWitt) and Anita Swinton (Derius); two grandchildren, Dejuan Marcus and Jahmani Kayan Cameron; a mother-in-law, Martha Lomax; one sister-in-law, Rita Johnson (Winston); three brother-in-laws, Percell Lomax, Jr., Don Lomax (Jeanetter), and Bruce Lomax; an aunt, Elizabeth Dixie; a special buddy, Keiji Rottkamp, and several special nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service, celebrating his life, will be held at 12 noon on Monday, June 3, 2019, at Colossian Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Peter A. Evans, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 11:30 a.m. Mr. Cameron may be viewed on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the hour of his service.
