George Edward Jefferson

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 80, George Edward Jefferson cheerfully met his mother and two siblings at Heaven's Gate. On November 11, 1942, George was the sixth child born to Isabel Jefferson in Charles City County, Va.

At an early age, "Lovie," as some affectionately knew him, joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful member until his health began to fail. George received his formal education in the Charles City County Public School System. He was employed by Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a bus driver for several years.

George was an avid sportsman. He loved hunting, bowling, fishing, and playing softball.

George is preceded in death by two siblings, Andrew and Catherine. He will forever be remembered as the father of two daughters, Iris McRae (Juan) and Tisha Cary (Juanita); one son, Christopher Cary; granddad to thirteen; the G-Pa to ten; dear brother to Hancy Hatchett, Grace Woodley, and Gladys Bartlett-Johnson; brother-in-law to Alleana Jefferson; treasured uncle to several nieces and nephews; three faithful nieces, Barbara Jefferson, Joyce Ashlock, and Phyllis Wallace; nephew, William Woodley; devoted friend, Kathy Mouton; his absence will also leave a void in the lives of a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Chruch.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment to follow in the church cemetery.  Mr. Jefferson may be viewed in the church on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Facial coverings are required for all services.
