On Sunday, April 16, 2023, God, in His infinite wisdom, called home our beloved George B. "Papa" Palmer. Papa's life began on April 10, 1934, son of the late Jane and Frank Palmer Sr. of York County, Virginia.
At an early age, George confessed Christ as his personal Savior and joined Mt.Pilgrim Baptist Church. He served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Echo Choir.
He graduated from the York County Public Schools and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on September 25, 1958. He also worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and was an entrepreneur.
On June 25, 1994, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Palmer. Papa was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a loyal Washington Commanders fan and forever be loved by his community.
Papa was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Tyler, and stepson, Richard Parrott Jr.
He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Shirley Palmer; three children, Robert Jones, Alton Morton (Rose), and Lisa Jones; two step-daughters, Lisa Parrott and Vanessa Taylor; brother, Frank Palmer Jr.; aunt, Maude Barlow; daughter-In-law, Rose Tyler; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the services. Mr. Palmer may be viewed on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Facial coverings are required for all services.
