Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and special friend, Glenn Tyrone Strong Sr, affectionately known as “Forty," departed this life on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in his home. In God's plan and purpose, Forty was born on September 18, 1962, the youngest of fifteen children born to the late Herbert and Edith Strong, in James City County.
In his youth, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Shiloh Baptist Church. Later in life, under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Dr. Robert A. Whitehead Sr., he joined New Zion Baptist Church.
He was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. He later attended Trading School in Williamsburg, Va. He was employed at Colonial Williamsburg and served for over thirty-nine years until retirement. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we find comfort in knowing he is not suffering but resting with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Tyrone enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, watching In the Heat of the Night, and playing cornholes. He also enjoyed playing cards such as spades, duces, and tonk. Forty was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who enjoyed watching his team play. He loved riding his moped, talking smack, and joking with family. Tyrone's smile and loving personality were an inspiration to everyone he met. He was a family person, and family meant so much to him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we find comfort in knowing he is not suffering but resting with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Dubrey and Russell Rudolph Strong, and three sisters, Nancy Edlow, Ruth Mae Green, and Mildred Stone. He leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories his daughter, Glendora Strong Sellers (Shoyn Sr.); son Glenn Tyrone Strong Jr.; five grandchildren, Mark Sellers (MJ), NahJay Sellers, Shayla Sellers, Shoyn Sellers Jr., and Shoynae Sellers; two great-grandchildren, Shayne Sellers and Sha’mya Sellers; brothers, Herbert Marsh (Ellen) and Angelo Strong; three sisters, Phyllis Allen, Maria Strong, and Annette Carter (Carl Sr.); special friends, Stevie, Nate, and Peaches; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Glenn's life will be held at Noon on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Mr. Strong may be viewed beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the funeral home.
