Gloria Brown Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Gloria Ann Cheeseman Brown, has left an empty place in our hearts.  On Monday morning, March 29, 2021, God saw fit to send one of his Angels down from Heaven to summon one of His own from Labor to Rest.

Gloria was known by many friends as “G.B.”, “Chilly”, and “Glo.” She was born on May 8, 1948, to the late Alfonzo and Florence Cheeseman in Newport News, Virginia.

Gloria attended Carver Elementary and Carver High School.  She was a kind and loving person.  She loved her family very much and was loved by all who knew her.  Gloria instantly became friends with all that met her, she never met a stranger.  She will truly be missed but we know God’s will had been done.

Gloria worked in the York County Public School system as a teacher’s assistant. She also worked at the Port of York as a waitress.  Whatever the job, Gloria was determined to do it well.

Gloria joined Colossian Baptist Church at an early age where she was a faithful member. She served on several ministries to include the Usher Ministry, Gleaner Ministry, Pastoral Care Ministry Visitation Ministry, Bread Ministry, Second Senior Choir, and Gospel Choir.  She also sang with the United Fellowship Choir.  Gloria enjoyed being a part of each of these ministries where she served with dedication and love.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonzo and Florence Cheeseman, ex-husband, Willie Brown, Sr., a great-grandson, baby Amari James Jackson, four sisters, Thelma Cheeseman, Dorothy Greene, Florence Allen, and Carolyn Wright; two brothers, Nathan Cheeseman and Steven Leon Cheeseman, two nephews, Adam Grimes and Ronald Greene, and a niece, Debra Grimes.

Gloria leaves to cherish her fond memories, three sons, Willie Brown Jr. (Darlene), Gabriel Brown (Antionette), and Derrick Brown; seven grandchildren, Dionna Brown, Latrice Everett, Latesha Mosley, Jahborn Brown, Saibir Brown, Prince Brown, and Gabriel Brown, Jr.; great-grandson, Eric Everett, Jr. and Jelani Herbert; sister, Alta Grimes (Reginald); brother, Robert Cheeseman (Edith); brother-in-law, James Greene, Sr.; special friends, Ada Brooks, Darlene Thomas, Laura Smythe, Niecy Anderson, Shelia Bartlett, Theresa Wynn, Willie Wallace, Linda Bing, Cynthia Brown, Barbara Wright and Theresa Dennard; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Colossian Baptist Church.  Facial coverings and social distancing are required.  Livestream will be available at the start of the service.  Mrs. Brown may be viewed from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday at Whiting's Funeral Home.
