Gloria Alicia McIntyre

With deep sorrow and profound love, we announce the passing of Gloria McIntyre, who entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2024. Gloria was born on September 14, 1950, in Colon, Panama, to the late Ovid and Olga Laurie. She was the youngest of six siblings and will be reunited with her beloved brother Ricardo Laurie and sister Elena Kirton. She is survived by her remaining siblings, Cynthia Laurie, Carlos Laurie, and Papito Laurie.

A woman of unwavering faith, Gloria was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she found solace, fellowship, and strength. Her belief in the power of community extended beyond the walls of the church—throughout her life, Gloria was a dedicated servant to those around her.

Gloria’s career exemplified her tireless work ethic and commitment to public service. After more than four decades of faithful service to the United States Postal Service, Gloria retired, but her desire to contribute to her community never waned. She continued to work at the College of William & Mary’s Post Office, where her warmth and dedication made her a beloved figure among students, faculty, and staff alike.

Gloria’s heart was as big as her spirit, and she was passionate about giving back to the community she so deeply cherished. A lover of books, she volunteered at the Virginia Beach Public Library, where she shared her enthusiasm for literature with others. She also dedicated countless hours to helping her daughter, Stephanie Standeford, and her son, Craig McIntyre, with their academic and extracurricular endeavors, particularly supporting school and orchestra events. Her boundless energy and devotion to her family made her a cornerstone of their lives.

At home, Gloria was a gifted cook and baker, delighting her family and friends with her famous homemade cookies and cherished holiday fruitcakes. Her love of food was only rivaled by her affection for her family, for whom she prepared many a delicious meal. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and shared memories. Outside of cooking, Gloria enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—long walks by the beach, where the sound of the waves would soothe her soul, and the quiet joy of cross-stitching, a craft that allowed her to create beauty with her hands.

Gloria’s vibrant personality was one of her most cherished qualities. She had a remarkable ability to make others laugh, with a quick wit and a collection of funny jokes that never failed to brighten the room. Her love of music and dance was infectious, and she could often be found humming her favorite tunes or swaying to the rhythm of life. Gloria was also an avid conversationalist, with a keen mind and a passion for spirited discussions about life and the world around her. Her impeccable taste in fashion made her a true style icon to all who knew her. Whether in a casual outfit or dressed to the nines, Gloria’s fashion sense was always a reflection of her vibrant personality and love of life.

Her family and friends will forever remember her as a woman who lived with joy, laughter, and a deep love for those around her. She leaves behind her devoted children, Stephanie Standeford and Craig McIntyre, as well as a host of other family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives she touched in profound and lasting ways.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Gloria's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at The Historic First Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Ms. McIntyre may be viewed in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
