Gregory Johnson Jr. Obituary

“I’m free praise the Lord, I’m free. No longer bound, no more chains holding me. My soul is resting, it’s just a blessing. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah, I’m free.”

Gregory Girard Johnson Jr., affectionately known as “GG”, was born on July 1, 1974, at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ to Gregory G Johnson, Sr. and Sheliah Johnson.

Gregory Jr. accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA. He attended elementary school in Plainfield, NJ, and graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, VA.  After graduation, he attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC.

Born with the spirit of travel and adventure, he enjoyed many trips throughout his years, both domestic and abroad, with family & friends. Throughout his life, he lived in New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and Florida. He was Never one to let grass grow under his feet and was the life of every party.

He worked in several professions as a data entry specialist, day laborer, and working with the non-profit foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project which helps soldiers who were wounded when they returned home from battle. However, at his heart and soul, he was a writer. On February 17, 2017, he published his memoir, "Til Death Do Us Part: HIV & Me: Standing in My Truth."  With the book, he would speak to college campuses about his journey through life, helping others with his story.
