Hattie was born on April 13, 1945, to Catherine and Lorenzo Parrott Sr, in Williamsburg, VA.
She was educated in the York County Public School System graduating from James Weldon High School. After graduating, she decided that it was time for a change and moved to New York to live with her aunt in Brooklyn.
While in New York she met and married Samuel Midgette. This union was blessed with three loving children, Angela, Steven, and Saundra. She later married the late Lorane Jones.
Hattie came from a loving home and loved the Lord. She joined Mt. Moriah AME Church under Rev. Melvin D. Brown in the late '60s, serving on the usher board (now PMT), Celestial Choir, and the Lay Organization under the leadership of her current Pastor, Rev. Robert Lowe.
Hattie loved helping others. This was evident in her thirty-five-year tenure as a Social Worker with DC37. Hattie was a Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Star of Joppa Chapter in Queens, NY and later joined AKAR NO. 1 in Newark, NJ.
Hattie loved to travel, go on cruises with family and friends, and dance. Overall, she just enjoyed life and good people. Her heart was big, never knowing when to say no. When things weren't going right, others had problems, family needed fixing; well Hattie was the rainbow in the midst of the cloud, making everything alright. Now we all know what her favorite saying was: "It is what it is". We will miss you dearly!
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, three aunts who lovingly raised her, a sister, niece, nephew, and uncles. She leaves fond memories with her children, Angela Midgette-David (Darryl), Steven Midgette, and Saundra Midgette; five loving grandchildren whom she adored, Brianna David, Delia David, Julia David, Robert Midgette, and Courtney Midgette; four brothers, Lorenzo Jr., Robert (Dorothy), Lawrence, and John (Lisa); four sisters, Brenda, Eloise, Gladys, and Zennie; along with other aunt's, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Valerie Matthews officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Parrott-Jones may be viewed in the church on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of her service. Facial coverings are required for all services.
