A human spirit has taken flight at the call of the “Heavenly Father” to the mansion that has been prepared from the foundation of the earth by an all-wise and loving God.
Hazel Mae Taylor died peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the comfort of her home after a courageous battle with Gaucher Disease. Her life began on May 27, 1937, daughter of the late Marian B. and W. Taylor. Hazel was raised in a loving Christian home by her grandmother, the late Belle Taylor.
At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot, Virginia. She faithfully served her church by assisting with the cleanliness and beautification of the church.
Hazel was educated in the York County Public School system and was employed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, retiring from the Prestigious Williamsburg Lodge with more than twenty years of dedicated service.
Hazel’s children fondly referred to her as “Blade,” because of her sharp tongue and profound sense of humor. You could not visit her without leaving with a funny story and a meal. She was loved, respected, and adored by her family, neighbors, and many friends. She was dedicated to the happiness and well-being of her family. Her tireless efforts will be missed. She possessed a level of dedication and drive many could not compare with.
Hazel was predeceased by her sons, Dennis and Kevin; brothers, George “Lossie” Taylor and Russell Bowman; grandson, Dennis Reed; and stepfather, James “Jimmy” Taylor. She leaves to cherish and remember her well-spent life of eighty-five years, daughter, Priscilla Smith; sons, Morris Taylor and Gene Taylor Sr. (Donna); sisters, Vivian Frazier (Preston) and Joyce Piggott (Raymond Sr.); brother, Raymond Bowman Sr. (Rosetta); thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service to celebrate Hazel’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Zion Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Taylor may be viewed on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the church. Facial coverings are required.
