Herbert Piggott

On Sunday, April 7, 2024, Herbert Piggott departed this life unexpectedly at the Consulate Health Care of Williamsburg, to enter eternal life and join his Master.  On this early journey, he was the last of his five other siblings to depart this life.

His life began on April 29, 1939, the son of Charles and Laura Piggott of James City County, in the Piggott Town area, of the Croaker subdivision.

Mr. Piggott attended Bruton Heights School.  He was employed at Cheatham Annex and later worked for the College of William & Mary. 

He loved working on automobiles as a backyard mechanic.  When he was not busy and just relaxing, he could be found watching his favorite television show “The Family Feud,” or you would find him working on crossword puzzles, finishing up a book in two days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Steptivia Piggott, Michael “Bucky” Piggott, Herbert Piggott Jr., and Daryl Piggott; sisters, Celia Ferguson and Julia Jones; and brothers, Mervin Piggott, Willie Piggott, and Vernon Piggott.

Herbert leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Shirley Ames Piggott; children, Sylinda Piggott, Constance “Val” Piggott, Marcie Jones (husband, Wendell), and Vernon Piggott; daughter-in-law, Judy Davis Piggott; three stepchildren, Vinette Smaw, Vamon Garrison, and Timothy Morris; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Laurestine Fitzgerald, Suzanne Ferguson, Paula Ferguson, Angela McKelvin, and Metrise Wayne; nephew Mervin Piggott Jr.; special nephew Gilbert Johnson; a very, very special friend, Vivian Redcross; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamsburg.  Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Mr. Piggott may be viewed beginning at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the church.
