On Friday, June 4, 2021, our beloved Irma Jean Hawkins passed away peacefully in the arms of the Lord. Irma was born November 15, 1946, to the late Lee Esther and Thelma Roberts.
Early in life, Irma accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Chickahominy Baptist Church. She attended Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and graduated from Bruton Heights in 1965.
Irma was a long-time employee of Colonial Williamsburg until her retirement, but she still found time to be involved in many community organizations. Through Talent Search of Hampton University, she assisted the youth with college preparation. She volunteered for the Virginia Cooperative Extension Services as a Financial Counselor. She also worked diligently with the disabled community at Insight Enterprise Inc. in Hampton Virginia. Additionally, Irma was named the NAACP Queen for the Williamsburg chapter, serving as the CCIO Treasurer dating back as far as 1999, and was also a tax advisor for many businesses and personal clients.
Irma was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Roberts and June Washington, and her uncle, Thomas Ernest Meekins. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Kim Hawkins (Terry); grandson, Jamar Mason; granddaughters, Kimmeshia Hawkins and Antonavi Ashby; great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Christopher, Jay'vion, Kimuan, and Chyrie; two dear and special nieces, Sabrina Armstead and Brenda Roberts; her special childhood friend, Brenda Wynne; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and loving relatives and friends.
