James Allen Kee Sr., known to family and friends as "Allen," departed his earthly life for eternal rest on August 20, 2023. James was born on May 12, 1945, one of five children birthed to the late Harry and Virginia Kee in Branchville, Virginia.
He graduated from Southampton County Training School in June 1964. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After being Honorably Discharged from the Air Force, Allen moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, and worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, retiring after forty-two years. James then worked part-time for the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools System until 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Virginia Kee; daughter, Pamela Kee-Hall; brothers, Otis Fisher and Collis Kee; sister, Mary Coles; and grandson, Tracy Palmer.
James is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Yvonne T. Kee; children, Carla Franklin (Elfago), James Kee Jr., Thomas Dover, and Jonathan Kee; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy Kee (Carrie); four sisters-in-law, Carrie Kee, Carol Kee, Odessa Cary, and Genetha Cooley (Melvin); two brothers-in-law, Richard Taylor and Warren Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at New Zion Baptist Church. Interment with military honors to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Kee may be viewed in the church on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
