James "Bub" Jackson Jr. Obituary

On Sunday afternoon, May 24, 2020, James “Bub” Jackson Jr. answered the Master’s call, while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, fishing along the beautiful waters.  He was born on November 8, 1949, son of Thelma and James Jackson Sr.

He graduated with the Berkley High School Class of 1968 and later furthered his studies at Norfolk State University. Bub served in the United States Army.  After being honorably discharged from the Army he began a career with Anheuser-Busch; retiring after many years of dedicated service.

James would tell anyone his favorite career was retirement. He got to do what he wanted, when he wanted, and he dominated the outdoors full-time. Bub was well known as a professional hunter and fisherman throughout the United States and through his many travels abroad.  His mother has said, “Bub has always been the life of the party,” and that he was. Through James Jackson Jr., his family hopes that the world will see what it means to truly pursue your passion and live your life doing exactly what you love. God, family, hunting, fishing, and enjoying life was how Bub lived. His life will always be celebrated by his family and friends; as he would have it no other way. Rest in peace James Jackson Jr. and continue Dominating the Outdoors in Heaven.

Fond memories will forever remain with his children, Kimberly A. Cary (Ned), Derek Morgan, Brandie Jackson Tena (Hector), Jamie Jackson, and James Jackson III (Whitney); grandchildren whom some lovingly referring to him as “Daddy J,” are, Ashley Cary, Xavier Morgan, Carter Morgan, Keylen Tena, Ethan Tena, Riley Jackson, and Tyler Jackson; his parents, Thelma and James Jackson Sr.; brothers, Sylvester “Sonny” Jackson and Jonathan “Bussie” Jackson (Tammy); aunt, Viola Brown; special cousin, Riley “Jackie” Thomas; special friend, Vanessa Lawrence. He will also be eternally celebrated by his nieces, nephews, cousins, long-time friends, those he hunted and fished with, and those who admired his outdoorsmanship through his media platforms.

A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2020, in the funeral home.  A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2020. Due to the current health pandemic, social distancing will strictly be enforced. Facebook live-streaming will be available for the service so the public and friends may participate in the service.

In lieu of flowers please send a donation to New Zion Baptist Church for the Thelma P. Jackson Scholarship and have your donation end with the number eight (8) to celebrate Bub’s birthday and life.
