James "Jake" Druitt Sr. Obituary

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunions,

With our dear loved ones who’ve gone before;

In that fair home-land we’ll know no parting

Beyond the sunset forever more!

Mr. James “Jake” Edward Druitt Sr., 94, was born on May 20, 1925, the son of the late James A. and Florence D. Wallace Druitt, in James City County, Virginia.  He answered the Master’s call to “Eternal Life”, on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Riverside Doctors Hospital, Williamsburg, Virginia after a brief illness.

James accepted Christ at an early age and was a life member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Virginia.  In 1942, the United States entered World War II. James was one of the first Negro’s to voluntarily join the United States Navy.  He trained at the Naval Training Center, in Great Lakes, Illinois; after which, he was shipped off to Hawaii for several months after the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Seaman First Class Druitt completed his service in the United States Navy at the end of the War in 1946.

On December 1, 1946, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Florence Lorraine Anderson of Hackensack, New Jersey.  They moved to Buffalo, New York where he took a job with General Motors and raised their seven children.  Upon his retirement from General Motors in 1981, they relocated their household to his hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia, where he continued to be an avid bowler, a best friend to many dogs (particularly his Yorkie Jimmy), joke teller, and connoisseur of Mc Donald’s Mocha Frappe’.

He is preceded in death by his wife; son, James E. Druitt Jr.; daughter, Talia R. Moore; grandson, Marshall III; siblings, Gladys, Sam, Rufus, Jance, Luberia, Bernice, George, Rena, Henley, Percell, and Alex.  His memories will forever be cherished by his loving children, Beverly F. Druitt Esq. (Warren Little), of Springfield, VA, Janice E. Druitt, of Buffalo, New York, Donald L. Druitt Sr. (Karen), of Macon-Bibb County, GA, Teresa L. Lewis (Kevin), of Lawrenceville, GA, and Donna L Druitt, of Buffalo, New York; ten grandchildren, Andre’, Donald Jr., Kyle, Starlisha, Allen, David, Taylor, Ashia, Skyler, Raven; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; son-in-law, Albert Moore Jr, of Buffalo, New York; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
