Janie M. Braxton transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in the Riverside Convalescent Center, Saluda, VA. She was born on September 1, 1962, to the late Betty and Russell Braxton. She was also preceded in death by her stepsister, Elnora Rhodall, and stepbrothers, Darrin Hailey and Don Hailey.
At an early age, she joined and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamsburg. In her early adult years, she relocated to the Newport News area where she joined hands in fellowship with Colossian Baptist Church, Newport News, where she served as a Greeter. She loved and adored her Pastor; the Rev. Dr. Peter A. Evans and her Colossian Church family.
Janie was educated through the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System. Janie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Food Service Worker for many years.
Janie’s favorite football team was the Washington Redskins, now the Washington Commanders. She enjoyed and was a follower of The Yorktown Stars Softball Team. She enjoyed traveling, eating good food, family gatherings, and shopping. From a young age, she always took pride in her appearance and always dressed to impress.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her children, Derwynne Braxton, Kimberly Carter, Delvrin Braxton, and Shavonna Carter; grandchildren, Javion Gilbert, Kiyonna Gilbert, and Lyric Braxton; sisters, Joyce Braxton (Hampton) and Roslin Braxton; aunts, Mildred Morris (Walter), Sandra Trower, Rachel Shearin (Ben), Cynthia Ashby, and Thelma Braxton; uncles, Don Piggott, Herman Braxton (Dianne), and Reginald Braxton; nieces, Aisha Edwards, Tamekio Braxton, and Treka Braxton; nephew, Tramaine Braxton; step-mother, Jacqueline Braxton-Marrow; step-sisters, Joan Crump, Brenda Black (Anthony), Cleo Johnson (Charles Jr.), and Linda Hailey; step-brothers, Bryant Hailey (Shirley) and David Hailey; special friend, Robin Moore; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and many caring friends.
