Janie Chapman

Janie was born on July 15, 1965, to the late Anita Chapman and Jimmy Gray and was raised by Roy Watkins Sr. in Richmond, Virginia. On August 31, 2023, God’s angels beckoned her home to her resting place.

Janie attended Lafayette High School. Upon leaving high school she worked throughout the Williamsburg area.  In her youth, Janie attended Mount Ararat Baptist Church.  In her adulthood, she attended multiple churches. She always kept God with her throughout her walk.

Janie leaves to cherish fond memories her daughter, LaKecia Chapman (Douglas Palmer); two grandchildren, Zavion Palmer and Journey Palmer; long-time friend, Wayne Meekins; six sisters, her twin Jeannie Chapman, Connie Chapman, Yvonnie Chapman, Jane Gray, Pat Gray, and Denise Gray; one brother, Kenneth Gray; special aunt and "MeMa" as she called her, Barbara Braxton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Whiting's Funeral Home.
