Jeffrey “Jeff” Dabney

August 14, 1961 ~ April 9, 2022 (age 60)

Obituary

Early on Saturday morning, April 9, 2022, our father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend, Jeffrey “Jeff” Dabney, unexpectantly transitioned from his earthly journey at his home in Gloucester, Virginia.  On August 14, 1961, he was born to the late James Elgin and Laurenia (Turpin) Dabney of Gloucester, Virginia.

Jeff loved to reminisce about his childhood experiences and friends in Mount Vernon, New York, where he and his friends started a DJ crew/business known as “Static Control System,” whose stage name was “DJ NINE”.  He later relocated to Virginia and acquired his license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse from New Horizon’s Vocational Center.

Jeff was interested in working with people, particularly young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Over the years, he was employed at many places throughout Virginia, including Eastern State Hospital, the Arc, Walter Reed Convalescent Center, and Virginia Health Services.  Jeff also had a special love for cars and motorcycles, spending his free time acquiring cars otherwise deemed as “junk” and bringing them back to life and in working order.

Jeff had a great love for his family and friends and loved to joke, share funny stories, and spread laughter wherever he went.  He had a big smile and an even bigger heart.  He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jeff was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Ruth (Dabney) Arroyo.  Left to cherish his fond memories are his children, Demetrious Greene, Avante Graves, JoVon Bennafield, and Jazmine Jones; granddaughter, N’yomi Renae Bennafield; loving sister, Melody Dabney Countess (Wendell) of Reisterstown, MD; aunt, Louse Dabney Cosby Gloucester, VA; nephews, Lamonzo Arroyo of Denver, CO, Blake Countess of Pompano Beach, FL, and Drew Countess of Reisterstown, MD; neice, Marquise Dabney of Reisterstown, MD; great-grandnephew, Gideon Countess of Pompano Beach, FL; and a host of cousins and an abundance of caring friends.

A service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at First United Baptist Church, Gloucester.  Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment to follow at Berea Cemetery, Gloucester.  Mr. Dabney may be viewed in the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, beginning at noon in the church.  Facial coverings are required for all services.
