Jemari Montez Davis, a lifelong resident of Newport News, died unexpectedly on October 15, 2023. He was born on July 5, 2007, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, the son of Letitia Jones of Newport News.
He attended Jenkins Elementary School, Hines Middle School, and Warwick High School, prior to entering Denbigh High School in September 2023.
Jemari began attending Denbigh United Presbyterian Church when he was five years old; he was confirmed and baptized there on August 18, 2019. Jemari was active in the youth programs of the church; he participated regularly in Faith Weaver Friends, Vacation Bible School, the Summer Educational Enrichment Program, Sunday School Class, and Sunday morning worship services. As a teenager Jemari volunteered in the church’s Clothing and More ministry to the needy, served as a volunteer assistant coach for children in the Upward Basketball program, was a recreation co-leader for Vacation Bible School, and served as a member of the audio-visual team that broadcasts Sunday morning worship services. In his free time, Jemari enjoyed playing video games, playing basketball with friends, and physical conditioning exercises.
In addition to his mother, Jemari is survived by his brothers, Trent Davis Jr. and Brennon Latrell Andrews; sisters, Diamond Tanei’jah Snead-Harris, Aliyana Janiya Davis, Aisha Hinton, and Asia Russell; aunt, Tierra Dewberry; cousins, Tainijua, Julieyana, Charles, and Zyniiah Dewberry; niece, Liylah Armani Jefferies; and stepfather, Antwone Vernell Jones, all of Newport News, Virginia.
