Jerome Columbus Washington Sr.

When the purposes of his life were completed, Jerome Columbus Washington Sr. departed this life and began his heavenly journey on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Hampton, VA, after a lengthy illness.  In Acts 17, God tells us that when he brings us here, he has already set the date for our departure. 

Jerome's life began on July 18, 1949, the son of the late George and Cornelia Washington.

He was educated in the Williamsburg/James City County Public School system and was one of the first students to integrate the public schools.  He went on to proudly serve this nation as a United States Marine. He was stationed in Vietnam and later served President Richard Nixon.

Throughout his life, he owned and operated many businesses and served his community in a number of ways, including public service with the city of Colton, California, for nineteen years, and then later as a real estate broker with his own firm.

He was a faithful Christian, a devoted husband and brother, and a wonderful father.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; brother, Reginald, who was married to Evelyn; and brother Kenneth Washington.

He leaves to cherish his memories son Jerome Jr; daughter Stacy Washington; stepsons, Brad Starkey and Paul Starkey; sisters, Christina Washington, Wertley Diggs, and Thelmond Thomas (Ernest); brothers, Jeffrey Washington, Deacon George Washington (Fain), Hosea Washington (Jenny), Kershaw Washington (Dale), Rayve Washington (Evelyn), Joseph Washington (Kim), and Christopher Washington (Nellie); special friends in California, Charles Brown, Gabriel Hani, Ms. Ross, and Ms.Jackson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 7005 Pocahontas Tr., Williamsburg, Va. Mr. Washington may be viewed that day beginning at 10 AM, with services to follow at 11 AM.
