Psalm 107:1-2
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
Jimmie Leo Anthony peacefully departed this life on July 15, 2020. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama on December 16, 1956, to the late Julia Mae Anthony and Jimmie Lee.
Jimmie attended school in Williamsburg Virginia. He worked at Tudor Car Wash in Williamsburg and Iceland Warehouse in Newport News, Virginia. He attended HOPE Manifested Ministries in Hampton, Virginia.
Jimmie loved being around family and friends; making people laugh. He enjoyed life to the fullest, always making a friend and spreading the joy of laughter to everyone he met. Everyone knew him as “Jimmie Houp” or “Jimmie from Denbigh”.
In his last days, Jimmie had two very special caregivers and friends, Gisele Bennafield and Roberta (Bert) Grooms. During the last weeks of his life, he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by family and friends who ministered to him as he prepared to transition. If you asked him how he was feeling his response would be, “I feel pretty good”. He preached a message towards the end of his earthly journey, never complaining about his situation. Although life had its challenges and struggles, Jimmie would always say, “God is good.”
He was predeceased by a son, Marquis L. Bennafield, and sister, Lavern Jordan. Jimmie is survived by two children, Leticia Richeson and Jontae Bennafield; two grandchildren, Demond Richeson and Amari Kirby; a special daughter, Lynnasia Simpson; three siblings, Iverson L. Gary of Colorado, Johnny J. Gary of North Carolina, and Teresa A. Lassiter (Johnny) of Virginia; and a host of family and friends.
