Joann Fox Lewis was born on December 28, 1951, in York County. She was raised by her mother, Marie Fox, and grandparents, Mildred (Big Mamma) and Fred (Big Daddy) McIntyre and Uncle Billy, and Aunt Mary Giles.
Joann accepted Christ at an early age. Her Christian education began with Sunday school and bible school at Rising Sun Baptist Church where she was baptized. She attended James Weldon Johnson School and graduated from York High School. She devoted many years working for the York County School System until retiring due to her failing health.
She was a loving person and expressed her love in many ways to her family and friends by cooking a meal, offering a helping hand, giving a smile, or lending a listening ear.
Her memories will be cherished by her children, Willie Wright (Hope), Rafael Jackson, and Phyllis Jackson; grandchildren, Quantaija Wright, Melquan Wright, Sarah Brady, Jalen Jackson, Jalisa Jackson, and Jaysean Jackson; great-grandchildren Amare Whittaker and Serenity Brady; brother, Bobby McIntyre; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the start of the service. Ms. Lewis may be viewed from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required at all services.
