John Ellis Capehart, affectionately known as "Button and Big John", was called home to be with Jesus on June 3, 2022, in the early morning at Riverside Regional Medical Center. John received Jesus as Lord and Savior and was a member of Resurrection House International Ministries. He was very thankful that "God has always had his back" and would always say, "I trust God" and that he was ready for what "God wanted him to do." John had a very caring heart, always concerned about his fiancé whom he said was the love of his life, his children, and his family. He had a very close relationship with his mother and all his sisters.
John enjoyed the outdoors, often seen working in the yard and washing his car. An avid sports fan, "Button" played basketball, rode his bike, walked, and watched football.
John attended schools in Williamsburg, Va. His love for cooking and feeding others led him to become a chef at the age of 18. He worked in several restaurants including 1776 and others in Colonial Williamsburg. He retired from the Chickahominy House and was recognized both locally and internationally for his culinary creations.
A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, June 13, 2022, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Facial coverings are required.
