John Morning, lovingly known by most as "John Junie," passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was born to the late Jerry and Elizabeth Morning on January 22, 1937, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
John attended public school locally. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He could ALWAYS be seen with his Marine Corps hat on! After being honorably discharged, he worked in the mailroom on the campus of the College of William & Mary. He also took pleasure in being able to work with his baby brother Jerry at the Renowned Williamsburg “Triangle Snack Bar.” John’s last job allowed him to follow in the footsteps of his Dad when he took a position with C&O Railroad until retirement.
John had a deep passion for baseball, family, friends, and country music. His favorite song was Charlie Pride’s “Kiss an Angel Good Morning.” His love for baseball ran deep, playing in multiple states and tournaments. Many fans (including his kids) remember him playing for the Lightfoot Blue Jackets. Stories are still told about his “Glove” and speed on the field. John was legendary for his commitment to family and friends, his joyful nature, quick wit, and never backing down from any challenge.
John leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Carolyn Gilliam (Kenneth) of Hampton, VA, Joanne Fauntleroy (Michael) of Denver, CO, John D. Morning Sr (Romella) of Charlotte, NC, and Nicholas Morning of Richmond, VA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
John was preceded to glory by his parents, daughter Melody Morning, grandson John D. Morning Jr., sister Dorothy Morning Spratley (His favorite Girl), and brothers, Frank Morning and Jerry Morning.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at noon Friday, December 9, 2022, at Whiting's Funeral Home, with Dr. Morris L. Randall Sr. officiating. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Morning may be viewed beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of his service in the funeral home.
