Joseph Haynes was born on September 17, 1945, in New York City to parents Anderson Long and Lucille Price.
Raised in the Big Apple, “Haynes”, as he was affectionately called by friends and family, attended public schools, and held numerous jobs after successfully completing training in both Maintenance and Building Services. In 1967, Haynes landed a job as a superintendent of a major housing facility. Later, Haynes would obtain a position with the NYC Sanitation Dept. as an Environmental Police Officer, as well as a heavy Equipment Operator. While working there, he met Janet V. Wright, and after several years of dating, Joseph and Janet united together in holy matrimony.
Haynes worked alongside the first responders during the 9/11 tragedy. After retiring in 2007, Haynes further exemplified his humanitarian spirit by volunteering with the Red Cross for over a decade, traveling from city to city providing relief to victims of disasters and local emergencies. Joseph was a gentleman of few words unless there was a card game underway.
Always a fierce competitor, Joseph enjoyed card games, as well as bowling; and belonged to the Yorktown Lanes Bowling League in Virginia.
