On August 26, 2020, at the age of 63, the Lord called home his faithful servant, Joseph Palmer. He passed away peacefully at the Hampton VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 20, 1956, in Williamsburg, Virginia to Evangeline (Johnson) Palmer and the late William Henry Palmer, Sr.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Joseph was a 1975 graduate of York High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1978 after three years of service to his country. Thereafter, he studied mechanical drawing at Thomas Nelson Community College. Over the span of his career, Joseph worked as a mechanical drafter for several Silicon Valley technology companies in Santa Clara County, California.
Joseph was a beloved member of the community. He loved sports, music, and spending time with his family and friends.
Joseph is preceded in death by his brother, William Henry Palmer, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Evangeline Palmer; children, Carlos, Crystal, Jose, and Myasia; grandchildren, Tierra, Chanti, Carlos Jr., Josiah, Senaida, and Olivia; siblings, Mary, Elsie (Bob), Evangeline, Raymond, Carolyn, and Patricia; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Whiting’s Funeral Home with Reverend David O. Spratley officiating. A viewing will be held two hours prior to his service. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance. Face coverings and social distancing will be required. Facebook live-streaming of the service will be available.
