On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 11:22 p.m., God called his devoted servant Joshua Louis Washington home for eternal rest, at Williamsburg Post Acute and Rehabilitation under the care of Sentara Hospice Services. On April 1, 1931, he was the second child born to the late Mason M. and Lucille R. Washington, of Charles City, Virginia. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Washington and Lena Banks.
He graduated from Ruthville High School in Charles City County, VA. After high school, “Joshua Louis,” as he was affectionately called, served in the Army for two years. At an early age, he accepted Christ, was baptized, and joined Liberty Baptist Church in Charles City, VA. He later joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Croaker and was ordained as a Shiloh Deacon in 1995. In 1977, he served as a Trustee; he also served as a member of the Shiloh Senior Usher Board, Sunday School Superintendent, the Shiloh Male Chorus, and the Pastor’s Aides Ministry. He was also a member of the Peninsula Deacon’s Union. He truly loved the Lord.
On June 27, 1954, Joshua Louis married the former Pauline E. Givens from Croaker, VA. This union was blessed with sixty-nine years of marital bliss.
Within the community, Joshua Louis was a member of the Maceo Consolidated Lodge #124 and worked with Meals on Wheels for several years.
Joshua Louis leaves to cherish his fond memories with his wife, Pauline Washington; brother, Rev. Dr. Alton Washington (Kathleen); seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Shiloh Baptist Church-Croaker with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors and Masonic rites to follow in the church cemetery.
