On May 3, 2018, God released one of his angels to earth for a special assignment. Journey "Journ" Truth Olvis was born in Newport News, Va, to Steve Olvis and Brittany Morris. Journey completed her special assignment on Earth on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Journey was anointed and dedicated to the Lord by her grandmother Min. Shelly Miles the day she was born.
At an early age, Journey resided at St. Mary’s Home in Norfolk, VA. Her smile could light anyone’s face on the gloomiest day. Although Journey faced many heavy obstacles, she remained a joyous child. She fought through her battles as only she knew how a strong Princess who lived her journey.
Journey attended school at St. Mary’s Home and enjoyed outings with her family and special trips with the staff. Journey loved and enjoyed music and appreciated all visits and love that was given.
Journey was preceded in death by her grandmother, Deitra Clark; great-grandparents, Edward and Sophronia Olvis and Arlene Edwards; special grandfathers, Henry "Joe" Adkins and George Wallace; great-great-grandparents, Willie and Deloris Johnson Gatling and James and Bertha Mae Edwards; and aunts, Madeline and Michelle Olvis.
She leaves to cherish her loving father, Steve Olvis, and mother, Brittany Clark Morris (Bernard); siblings, Kiara, Shamar, Loyalty, and Genesis; grandparents, Shelly and Lonnie "Papa" Miles, Steve Green and special friend Kristae, and Wilbur-Dee Carter; great-grandfathers, William Green (Joese) and Bobby Edwards; great-grandmother, Jeane Wallace; aunts, Shakita Olvis, Chenise McLeod, and Rochelle Clark; uncles, Hahkim Green, Jeremiah Green, and Brandon McLeod; great-aunts, Angela Palmer, Sherry Jackson (Steven), Regina Green, Christy Holmes, and Shannon Perry (Allen); special aunts, Cadelia Hopper and Monique Johnson (Zachary); great-uncles, Leon Washington Jr., Jordan Lawson, Guy Holmes (Brittany); great-uncles/cousins, Anthony "Tony" Olvis and Bryant Olvis; great-great-uncles, Antonio Johnson (Shirley), Willie Gatling (Terri), James Edwards, Theyartist Edwards (Julia), and Kevin Edwards (Paulette); and a host of devoted cousins, other relatives, and a village of nurses and caretakers.
We would especially like to thank her care team from St. Mary’s Home for all the dedicated love they gave our baby Journey from the day she entered their doors. Special thanks are also given to CHKD of Norfolk, VA, for their continuous care and support, and Charlotte Immanuel Church of All Nations, Charlotte, North Carolina. You are truly angels on earth.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate Journey's life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Union Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Journey may be viewed in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service. Facial covering is required for all services.
