Joyce Y'Lando Braxton

Joyce Y’Lando Braxton transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center, West Point, VA.  She was born on November 18, 1957, to the late Russell and Betty Braxton. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Helen Piggott and George Ashby Sr., and Randolph and Catherine Braxton; sister, Janie M. Braxton; aunts, Joyce Redell Braxton, Helen Delores Washington, and Pearl Bartlett; uncles, George Edward Ashby Jr., Kenneth Ashby, Joseph Braxton, and Purcell Braxton; stepmother, Jacqueline Braxton Marrow; stepsister, Elnora Rhodall; and two stepbrothers, Don Hailey and Darrin Hailey. 

At an early age, Joyce was baptized and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA.  She was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School system.

She was employed at Anderson’s Corner Exxon Service Station for many years as a clerk.  She later worked at the Shell Gas Station in Lightfoot, VA, where she retired.

“Landie,” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, loved watching baseball and football, and she loved going out to restaurants to eat.  She was known for calling and talking with friends and family on the telephone.  She loved and never missed family gatherings at her sister, Roslin’s home.  She took pride in her appearance, ironing everything that she put on before leaving home; everything she wore, especially t-shirts, had to have a crease, or she would not wear it. 

She leaves to cherish her previous memories with her long-time companion, Hampton Meekins; her daughter, Aisha Edwards (Andre’); grandchildren, Garrick Edwards Jr. and LaMisha Harris; sister, Roslin Braxton; sister/cousin, Sylvia Miller (Donnie); brother/cousin, Vincent Ashby; aunts, Mildred Morris (Walter), Sandra Trower, Rachel Shearn (Ben), Cynthia Ashby, and Thelma Braxton; uncles, Herman Braxton (Dianne), Reginald Braxton, and Don Piggott; stepsisters, Joan Crump, Brenda Black (Anthony), Cleo Johnson, and Linda Hailey; stepbrothers, David Hailey and Bryant Hailey (Denise); nieces, Tamekio Braxton, Treka Braxton, Shavonna Rainbolt and Kimberly Carter; nephews, Tramaine Braxton, Derwynne Braxton and Delvrin Braxton; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many caring friends.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Whiting's Funeral Home, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
