Judy Smith Obituary

Judy Ann Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed unexpectedly on November 26, 2025, leaving a deep and lasting impact on all who were blessed to know her. She was born on January 25, 1952, the daughter of the late Ethel and James Taylor. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James Smith Sr., daughter Juliet Smith, and granddaughter Alissa Smith.

Born and raised in New Kent, Virginia, Judy attended New Kent Public Schools, where she began building the foundation of kindness, strength, and generosity that would define her life.

In her young adulthood, Judy met the love of her life, and the two went on to share more than thirty beautiful years of marriage. Their bond was a true example of partnership, devotion, and enduring love.

Judy had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. She was happiest in the kitchen, preparing home-cooked meals with love and sharing them with her family. Cooking wasn’t just a hobby for her—it was an expression of care, connection, and joy. Surrounded by the laughter and warmth of the people she cherished most, Judy truly came alive.

Known for her vibrant spirit and infectious energy, Judy was unquestionably the life of every event. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a birthday celebration, or a simple Sunday dinner, she had a way of making every moment feel special. Her presence lit up every room, and her love uplifted every heart.

Judy’s legacy will live on in the countless memories she created, the traditions she nurtured, and the unwavering love she shared. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. May her beautiful spirit rest in peace.

She is survived by her children, James Smith Jr., Belinda Lightfoot (Marcus Lightfoot), and Tony Smith; grandchildren, Carlisa Smith-Lawton (Leonard Lawton), James Smith III, Justice Wilson (Christopher Wilson), Ciara Smith, Kaniya Smith, Markhiya Lightfoot, Da’ziyah Smith, Micah Smith, A’mariah Smith, and La’zaveaha Blount; great-grandchildren, Blessin Gaskin, Sincere Gaskin, Nicere Mosses, Jailah Smith, Alyssa Gethers, England Wilson, and Thyri Wilson; brother, William Gay; sisters, Jenny Jones, Jerry Berkley, and Denise Johnson; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
