Julia Evaline Miles left this world on the morning of January 21, 2026, at home in Hampton, VA. A Registered Nurse for over 40 years, Julia, was born “prematurely” to Mary and Roger Wynn of Spring Grove, VA.
Julia attended Hampton University and earned a Degree in Nursing. After graduation, she spent decades on the Nursing Staff of CHKD's NICU and PICU units, working 12-hour shifts and often serving as the Charge Nurse. These units primarily serve premature babies, and she drew inspiration from her own premature birth.
Julia served in many different capacities in her community and was an avid churchgoer. She was the Scoutmaster for the Cub Scout Pack at Machen Elementary School, served as the Nurse on Duty at her local church, and was the Hospitality Coordinator at New Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown at the time of her passing.
Julia had many hobbies, including Arts & Crafts, Genealogy, and Doll Collecting. She spent many hours collecting family history information and tracing her family's lineage to Doc and Betty Graves, who were born in the 1800's. She also uncovered that Doc had bought Betty's freedom twice, according to the court records she found.
Julia is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ralph Miles; beloved mother Mary F. Wynn; son Morgan Miles, Sr. (Shavon); seven grandchildren, Kyon (24), Sirenity (23), Aylexcia (19), Morgan Jr. (17), Kayden (14), Joshua (10), and Kaleb (6); brothers, Roger (Diya) and John (Regina); sister Sheila (Ronald); aunt Nancy Saunders; sisters-in-law, Novie-Jean Combs and Berthel Moore (Robert); brother-In-law Larry Miles; cousin Rosalind Dodd who shared a sister like bond; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins she deeply loved.
The family would like to acknowledge extended family, Dorcella and Jimmy Canady of Williamsburg, Sara Pinks of New Jersey, and Julia's Doll Club friends, Cindy, Carolyn, and Lissette. The family would also like to thank Dr. Edward Boston and the New Bethel Baptist Church family, Dr. Robert Elliott, Jr. and the Morning Star Baptist Church family, and the staff of Whiting’s Funeral Home for their support in this delicate time.
A service to celebrate Julia’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery - Spring Grove. Mrs. Miles may be viewed in the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. 757-229-3011 whitingsfuneralhome.com
