Karen Yvonne Howell

At 6:48 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, our beloved Karen Yvonne Howell went home to be with the Lord. She was born in Bridgeport, Oklahoma on June 4, 1946, to the union of George and Iris (Gray) Colbert. She was the third of eleven children.

After marrying and living in California, Karen moved and resided in El Reno, Oklahoma for several years where she raised her family. She loved the Lord and was very faithful in church as well as active in her community where she was well known and greatly loved. She worked for several years at a bank as a teller, and also a caregiver to her mother. People knew her as a very giving and compassionate individual. She was also an excellent mother, grandmother, seamstress, and cook and was always known to be a go-getter at whatever she embarked upon. 

In December of 2021, Karen moved to Virginia to live with and be cared for by her daughters. Though for a brief time in Virginia before her passing, she became a beloved and faithful member of Faith Landmarks Ministries in Richmond, Virginia.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, George and Marie Colbert; brothers, Kenneth Colbert, Keith Colbert, and Gordon (Jerry Sue) Colbert; sisters, Gloria (Joseph Davis) and Lorraine Sims; daughter Carmen Myles (Marqus); and husband Alex Howell.

Karen's memories will forever remain with her daughters, Carmell Howell and Nichelle Wright (Kevin); sons, Aaron Howell (Cori) and Evvan Howell; sisters, Beverly Paige (Willard), Sherri Anderson (David), and Bonnie Hunter (Ronnie); brothers Barry Colbert (Eleanor) and Gary Colbert (Victoria); sixteen beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Karen's life will be held at Noon EST (11:00 a.m. CST) on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Whiting's Funeral Home.
