The Life of Michelle Sedgwick
Karen Michelle Sedgwick was born on August 21, 1962, to Robert L. and Gloria P. Sedgwick in Yorktown, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Robin Sedgwick.
Michelle was educated in York County Public Schools, graduating from Tabb High School. After graduation, she immediately left home to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, where she studied Fashion Merchandising.
Michelle was a true creative talent. Her sense of design and fashion could be seen throughout her life. She was more than an outstanding seamstress; she designed and constructed everything from wedding gowns to custom draperies. It didn’t stop there, her gift also translated into the fields of upholstered furniture, home interior design, and crafts of all kinds, including her signature Christmas stockings.
Michelle’s longtime friend, Keven J. Robinson, would constantly remind her that the clock was ticking to finish whatever outfit or project she was working on, and her response to him was, “No worries, I do my best work under pressure,” and as promised everything would be on time and right on point.
While Michelle maintained her artistic skills and continued to create throughout her life, she would go on to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Michelle worked for the Law firm of Hunton Andrews Kurth for 19 years in Richmond, Virginia.
She was a member of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church Creighton Campus in Henrico, Virginia, for many years.
For all who knew her, she was a kind and gentle woman who was passionate about her family and those she loved.
She leaves to mourn her parents, Robert and Gloria Sedgwick, longtime friend Keven J. Robinson, eight aunts; Mary Nazareth, Julia Barnes, Phyllis Jones, Christine Richardson, Maxine Robinson, Sandra Robinson, Thelma Vaughan, and Florence Feggans (James), two uncles; Horace Dennis Jr. and Ronald Dennis (Helen), a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
