Kenneth Elroy Johnson transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, September 12, 2024. He was the youngest child born to Geneva Pompey and the late Anderson Johnson Sr. on June 30, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
"Ken," as he was affectionately called, attended the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated in 1977 from Strawberry Mansion High School, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He continued his education and received a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University and Hampton University.
Ken met Sheila Wallace while at Hampton University. The happy couple married on December 23, 1994. This union was blessed with two children, a son and a daughter, Brian Edward and Anita Lahana. From a previous marriage, Ken was also blessed with a son named Kenneth Eric "Kenny".
He worked at various jobs, including a store manager at Sherwin Williams and a sales rep at Duron Paint Incorporated. Ken was a sales and marketing manager with International Paper for twelve years. He was promoted seven times during his tenure with IP and traveled the world seeing clients and managing regions. However, the job that he loved the most was being the Founder and Vice President of Eagle Distributing Enterprises. The company won many awards, which were proudly displayed in their office in Hampton, VA. He employed many people and prided himself on being a hardworking business owner. He also pursued real estate investments, including owning residential and business properties.
Along with loving business, Ken enjoyed a variety of activities including traveling and visiting family in South Carolina, playing the drums, beating many people in a game of checkers, jogging daily, speaking at events, and listening to soul and jazz music. He took great pride in sharing the story of the time he sang alongside a woman playing Diana Ross in a Broadway play in New York, a memory he cherished and spoke of often. He loved sports, cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles and Hampton University Pirates football teams. He had a contagious laugh and enjoyed making other people laugh with his quick wit.
He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, especially those who loved him the most, his wife Sheila Johnson; children, Kenny Johnson, Brian Johnson, and Anita Johnson; mother Geneva Pompey Johnson; brother Anderson Johnson Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, 21,2024, at St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
