Kenneth Eugene Rakes Sr.

Mr. Kenneth Eugene Rakes was born on October 30, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland.  He was the son of Amanda Young and Curtis Rakes Sr. of Beckley, West Virginia.  His earthly journey changed to everlasting rest on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Kenny, as he was affectionately called, was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gordon, and daughter, Theresa.

Kenny’s memories will forever remain with his wife, Donna Rakes; children, Michael, Ronitta, Kenneth Jr., Amanda, Nioka, Marla, Jill (Santiago), and Krystle (James); a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Curtis Rakes Jr.; special friends, James Elbourne and Tyrone Johnson; lifetime pets and companions, Lilly and Duffy; and a host of other relatives, friends and “Kenny’s Golden Angels.”

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home.  A time of reflections will begin at 3:30 p.m. and military honors will be rendered at 4:00 p.m.
