Kim Mack Obituary

"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

Kim Yvette Mack of Newport News, VA, peacefully transitioned into “Eternal Rest” on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Her earthly journey began on February 17, 1965, as the daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Mack of Williamstown, NJ.

In 1990, Kim was joined in Holy Matrimony with Kevin Byrd. This union was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Keisha, Keyonna, and Kayla.

Kim was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved the beach. She was a spunky straight shooter who had a keen eye for detail. A Purple fashionista who loved to sing and dance with a smile so bright, she could light up any dim room with her one-of-a-kind laughter and an exclusive pair of sunshades to match. She loved to shop at Walmart, and IHOP was her favorite place to eat. Her favorite quotes are “First of all” and “Don’t let the smooth taste fool you.” She loved to watch Law and Order and various types of crime shows. She loved spending time with her children, grandkids, and friends. She was a trash-talking Queen who could make you laugh and cry no matter the situation.

Kim is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mattie Mack; biological father Wesley “Sluggo” Marrow; two brothers, Robert Mack and James Mack of New Jersey.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her three beloved daughters, Keisha Mack, Keyonna Byrd, and Kayla Byrd, all of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Semaje Rankins, Jayden Rankins, Indya "Ne’Khi" Rankins, Amir Rankins, Mekhi Byrd, Messiah Byrd, Qamron Jones, and Melanie Morehead, all of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Tania Scott and Yumeka Mack, both of New Jersey; special friends, Avis Lilly of Yorktown, VA, and Tiffany Mason of Newport News, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing service to celebrate Kim's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Whiting's Funeral Home.
