Lee Taswell Jr. Obituary

Lee Percell Taswell Jr., affectionately known as “Buck,” transitioned peacefully on May 24, 2024, at his home in Toano, VA. He was born on January 18, 1936, to Lee Percell Taswell Sr. and Roselia Tyler Taswell.

At an early age, Buck confessed Christ as his Personal Savior, was baptized at Cranston’s Mill Pond, and joined Chickahominy Baptist Church. He completed his early education at Chickahominy School. Lee was a lifelong resident of Toano, except for a seven-year relocation to live with his son in Fredericksburg, VA.

Lee was employed as a supervisor at Sheldon Lumber Company of Toano for more than forty dedicated years. He was generous to many young men seeking employment and would hire them on the spot. However, he had no tolerance for showing up late or missing Monday mornings and would terminate you on the spot as well. He also worked with the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools System for several years. After retirement, he later worked at the New Kent County Department of Sanitation for ten years. He was always a faithful and dedicated worker. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending more time with family and friends.

Buck was a kind and gentle soul who brought laughter into every room he entered. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and neighbors, ensuring that each one received a Christmas Card with some cash or lottery tickets; and remembering birthdays with a phone call and well wishes. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, road trips, and watching Westerns. He loved family and community gatherings, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, Family Reunions, birthdays, cookouts, and talking on the phone with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalia and Lee Taswell Sr., brother Theodore Taswell; and sister Rebecca Tabb.

His memories and legacy will forever remain with his wife Shirley Ann Sheird Taswell; loving children, Kenneth Taswell (Belinda), David Taswell, Earl “Mike” Taswell Sr. (Clarissa), Bruce Taswell (Felica), and E. Diane Taswell; grandchildren, Jonathan Adkins-Taswell (Ashley), David Chandler Taswell, Earl Taswell Jr., Jamon Taswell (Yasmeen), Bruneka Waters, Danielle Taswell, Marcus Whiting, Tamarah Chavis, and Quincey Camp (Tiara); great-grandchildren, Journie Adkins-Taswell, Khloe Taswell, William David Taswell, Aspen Taswell, Miles Taswell, Kyrina Williams, Dakota Taswell, and Destanee Taswell; aunts, Myrtle Tyler Chapman (James) and Lisabeth Tyler; uncle Charles Tyler; special Tabb nieces and nephew, Lindell, Naomi, Anne, Joyce, Jackie, and Ivan; special friends, Peter Braxton, Chimmy Lee, Robert Smith, Woody Green, Reginald Wilson, Morris Matthews, and Warren and Oneita Jones; and a host of cousins, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
