Leroy Olanzo Graves, 56, departed this dear life on Friday, April 24, 2020, at VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. He was born on September 2, 1963, in Richmond, Virginia to Leroy and the late Lillian Graves.
“Zo”, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Newport News School System; graduating from Denbigh High School. He was a long-term Culinary Chef at Sammy & Nicks Restaurant and Sportsman Grill.
Olanzo is preceded in death by his grandmother Surella Brooks, whom he shared a special bond with, and two brothers, Anthony and John Graves. He leaves to cherish memories of his witty spirit, his children, Tanika, Dominique, Jerrod, Jamarr, Jamaal, Jazmine, Ja’lyn, and Leanntanette; fourteen grandchildren; father, Leroy Graves (Angie); fianceé, Velvet Cowles; sisters, A’Kishia and Carissa; brothers, Bobby, Seneca (Esperanza), Kevin, and Ryan; aunts, Verlie Mae Hunt, Helen Witcher, Elaine Walker (Sylvester), and Mary Walthall (Jan); uncles, Jack Hall, Robert Graves, and Dempsey Faulcon; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2020, at Whiting’s Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Due to the current health pandemic, all attendees must stay in their vehicles during the service.
