Lloyd Thomas Melvin Jr. of James City County, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born to Lloyd Sr. and Mary Ella Melvin on September 2, 1948, in Toano, Virginia. In his early teens, Lloyd and two of his brothers were adopted and raised by Rev. and Mrs. Milton Christian.
Lloyd, affectionately known as “Tee” by his family and friends, was reared and nurtured in a Christian home. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Personal Savior and joined St. Luke Baptist Church, Plum Point, Virginia. He later joined Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot, Virginia, and was a faithful member until his health began to fail. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Williamsburg and was educated through the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. He was employed at the Williamsburg Pottery as a Clay Thrower, Caster, Kiln Loader, and delivered pottery to various shops in Colonial Williamsburg, retiring after thirty-six years of service. He then worked various part-time jobs.
On August 5, 1969, Lloyd was united in Holy Matrimony to Myrtle Lee Taylor. Unto this union, they were blessed with one daughter, LaKeisha, and two sons, Von and Lloyd III.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd Sr. and Mary Ella Melvin; adoptive parents, Rev. Milton and Nellie Christian; son, Von Tabb; sister, Mary “Sis” Morning; brothers, William Melvin Sr. and Alfred Melvin; and adopted sister, Sally Armstead.
Lloyd leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted and loving wife, Myrtle L. Melvin; daughter, LaKeisha; son, Lloyd III; grandsons, Karic, Damien Jr., Omari, and Kamari; great-grandsons, Kaiden, Kyrie, and Karson; sister, Gloria Walker (Paul); brothers, Alphonso Melvin (Queen), and twin brother, Floyd Melvin (Darlene); adopted sister, Barbara Piggott (Edward); adopted brothers, Leon Christian (Christine), and Laurence Jones (Tomika); sister-in-law, Lucretia Piggott; brothers-in-law, Douglas Morning, Clint James (Wanda), Thomas Taylor, Marvin Taylor (Mammie), Troy Taylor, Rodney Piggott, and Corey Taylor (Dawn); aunts, Rosa Chapman, Audrey Boyd, and Blanche Reed; uncle, Sidney Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
A service to celebrate Lloyd's life will be held at Noon Monday, July 31, 2023, at Bethel Restoration Center. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Melvin may be viewed on Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church.
