Servant of God well done
Rest from thy loved employ.
The battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy “Master’s Joy.”
On January 13, 2024, Lorenzo Alphonso Holmes, while surrounded by his loved ones, answered the call to come home to be with the Lord. He was born on July 11, 1981, the son of Allison "Abby" Holmes and Kernell Wayne Washington, in Newport News, Virginia.
Lorenzo graduated from Menchville High School in 2000 and went on to further his education at Vatterott Career College in 2011, earning his associate's in Heating and Air Conditioning. He worked in the HVAC industry and as a sheet metal mechanic with Huntington Ingalls Industries.
Lorenzo was funny, charming, witty, and fierce. Lorenzo took his appearance seriously and strived to look his best even when he wasn’t feeling his best physically. In his free time, Lorenzo loved playing video games, listening to music, watching anything sports-related, and was a die-hard Raider’s fan.
Lorenzo rededicated his life back to Christ and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Audio-Visual Ministry, even as his health was declining.
Lorenzo was preceded in death by his mother Alison "Abby" Holmes and uncle Jerome Washington. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories his parents, Kernell and Veronica Washington; daughter, Jada Bruner; sisters, Andrea Holmes, Brintney Laing (Brian), and Briana Washington; loving aunts, Theresa, Pam, Stacy, Tracy, and Mabel; uncles, Mike Carr, Gene Carr, and Mark Giles; and a host of cousins, other caring relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate Lorenzo's life will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Holmes may be viewed in the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of his service.
