Lue Elizabeth Spruell was born on August 20, 1940, to the union of Joseph and Ida Jefferson in Charles City, VA.
At an early age, Lue accepted Christ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She served the Lord by keeping the church clean and was known for her string beans anytime there was a celebration at church.
Lue, affectionately known as “Liz” and “Lu-Lu,” attended the Mt. Zion School in Charles City. She worked in the housekeeping department at the Colonial Williamsburg Hospitality House for thirty years before retiring. She also maintained the “Little Houses” in Charles City and was a housekeeper for several families.
Lu was the eldest of seven girls and loved her siblings. She expressed that love in the conversations and visitations with her family and friends. Lue was a collector of wood knots and loved her odds and ends she found at her favorite thrift stores and boy could she find some treasures! She was an avid dresser keeping up with the latest styles while wearing her red lipstick. She kept hummingbirds visiting with never-ending sweet nectar while conversing with her birds lovingly named Charles, Mary, and Pickles. Our mother, sister, aunt, and dear friend was loved and gave more love in lending a helping hand to anyone. Lue will wholeheartedly be missed by all who knew her.
On Friday, September 6, 2024, Lue Elizabeth Spruell departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ida Jefferson; sisters, Mary Stokes, Emma Lewis, and Eugena Lemon; husband of sixty-five years Charles C. Spruell Sr.; and son Charles C. Spruell Jr.
