Margaret G. Jenkins entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 26, 1938, the oldest daughter of Lottie and Boisy Outlaw, in Pink Hill, NC.
She joined Salem Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Pink Hill, NC, where she served as an Usher. She graduated from E.E. Smith High School in 1956 and later moved to Williamsburg, VA with her cousin Christine Farrior. In 1976, Margaret became a member of St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg, where she served on the Hospitality Committee, and also as a Senior Usher until her health began to decline.
On November 4, 1960, Margaret married the love of her life Prince William Jenkins Jr. (On his 28th birthday!)
Margaret loved life and loved people. She enjoyed working and serving her customers at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Golden Horseshoe, retiring after 20 plus years of service.
Margaret was an avid bowler during the 1970s and 80s. She was a member of the “CB Club and Van Club” alongside her husband CG Long Legs. Her passions include playing Bingo, going to Casinos, and watching basketball on TV. In April of 1978, she joined Colonial Temple #380. She held every position in the Temple except Dt. Ruler. She was a member of Leading Light Progressive Pride Council, Life Member of the IBPO Elks of the World, and earned Past Grand Daughter Ruler Honors in 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Margaret was also one of the founding members of the Temple’s Prayer Breakfast Committee. She truly lived by the ELKS Principle, 1 Corinthians 13 - CHARITY.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Prince W. Jenkins Jr.; parents, Lottie & Boisy Outlaw; and two brothers, Charles & Thomas Outlaw. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, two sons, Prince Jerome Jenkins (Debra) of Newport News, VA and Bryan Keith Jenkins (Lorretta) of Greensboro, NC; daughter, R. Felecia Jenkins-Norman (Jeffrey) of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, Marcus O. Norman (Erin) of Riverview, FL, Prince J. Jenkins Jr, and Tyree Jenkins, both of Newport News, VA JaQuan Jenkins of Hawaii, and Bridley K. Jenkins of Greensboro, NC; three great-grandchildren, Tyree and A’Niya Jenkins, both of Newport News, VA and Russell Prince of Norman, FL; sister, Barbara Newberne (Herman) of Pink Hill, NC; four sisters-in-law, Catherine Pitts of Goldsboro, NC, Barbara Johnson (Jimmie) and Ann Donaldson, both of Savannah, GA, and Carolyn Jenkins-Berry (Larry) of Newport News, VA; special friends, Miriam Scott, Velveat Hawkins, and Henry Gosha; caretakers, Kathy Bunaugh, Alice Billings, and Cynthia Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service with live streaming will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Whiting's Chapel. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Mrs. Jenkins may be viewed two hours prior to service.
