Mrs. Margaret Louise Perrien Carter daughter of the late Alberta L. Wright Perrien and Leon Walter Perrien was born on August 19, 1929. She answered the Master’s call on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Yorktown, Virginia.
Margaret was educated at the Piney Swamp School and Gloucester Training School in Gloucester County, Virginia. In addition to several other vocations, she worked as an oyster shocker and tack welder. She was also the caregiver for her family members for over fifty years.
Margaret was joined in holy matrimony to Wallace Linstuart Carter on August 19, 1948, in Gloucester County, Virginia and they were married for fifty-eight years. This union was blessed with five children.
She enjoyed reading the bible, listening to old-time gospel music, and cooking for her family. She helped her daughter Sylvia, raise her three sons Eric, Timothy, and Travis. She was mother and grandmother to them. Margaret was an impressive woman and when she spoke, she meant what she said. Her famous saying was “treat everyone right and if you do wrong go back and fix it.”
Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Byron Winston Carter; one sister, Dorothy Perrien; three brothers, Leon Samuel Perrien, William Perrien, and Alfred Perrien. She leaves to cherish her precious memories two daughters, Margaret Diane Daniels (William) of Brentwood, NY and Sylvia Rosetta Carter of Yorktown, VA; two sons, Wallace Leroy Carter (Ruby) of Portsmouth, VA and Bruce Carleton Carter (Gail) of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, Eric Carter of Ponce De Leon, FL, Travis N.
