Marie C. (Crump) Brown

Sadie Marie Crump Brown gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 2, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.  Marie was born on October 7, 1932, daughter of the late Fleming and Gladys Jackson Crump.

She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church with her father as a young girl.  Later, Marie accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized, and joined hands in fellowship with Chickahominy Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Junius H. Moody.    Years later, Marie joined hands with St. John Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and devoted member of the Senior Choir and the Joy club until her health begin to fail.

Marie received her early education in New Kent Co, Richmond City, and Chickahominy Schools; graduating from Bruton Heights School, in Williamsburg, Virginia with the Class of 1949.  She continued her education at Apex Beauty College in Richmond, VA.; becoming a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Virginia. 

Marie was a warm and caring person who loved spending time with her family.  She had a passion for music and singing.  She loved watching game shows, especially “Family Feud”, completing word puzzles, and caring for children.

On December 2, 1958, Marie married the love of her life, Walter L. Brown Sr.  Unto this union, two children were born, Lois and Walter Jr. 

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Walter L Brown Sr.  She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her loving daughter and caregiver, Lois M. Brown; loving son, Walter L. Brown Jr. (Candace); grand-daughters, Dwan, Tiffany, and Destinee; two great-grandsons, Zachary and Amiri; brother, Roland Crump (Brenda); nieces, nephews, and many loving and caring friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Whiting's Chapel, with Rev. Walter Hudson officiating.  Interment to follow at St. John Baptist Church Cemetery, Williamsburg.  Face coverings and social distancing are required.  Facebook livestream will be available for this service.  A walkthrough viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
