Marita Bassett was born on May 14, 1963, to the late Curtis and Ida Bassett.
She attended New Kent High School and later worked in food services for several years before becoming disabled. Marita was very independent and the go-to person in the family. She stayed in contact with everyone because she was always on the phone.
Marita had no kids of her own although her nieces and nephews would beg to differ. She was a great babysitter; they knew they could depend on her.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, her four sisters, Augustine Brown of Baltimore, MD, Shirley Bassett of Baltimore, MD, Nettie Ivey (Chris) of Williamsburg, VA, and Sharlon Greenhow (Timmy) of Williamsburg, VA; four brothers, Kenny Shackaford of Williamsburg, VA, Howard Bassett of California, Bruce Bassett (Michelle) of King William, VA, and Donald Bassett (Sheila) of Newport News, VA; aunt, Gertrude; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday, March 31, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Whiting's Funeral Home, with a Time of Remembrance beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. 757-229-3011 whitingsfuneralhome.com
